Mission
The Mission District is an iconic and historic part of San Francisco. It was originally named for the Mission San Francisco de Asis, the city’s oldest standing building that was erected (constructed?) in 1776 by Spanish missionaries. Today, Valencia St is the main drag for trendsetting bars, cafes, restaurants, and local boutiques. Grab a burrito from one of the traditional favorites like El Farolito or the newer Señor Sisig (serving fusion Filipino-Mexican food), pick up some ice cream from Bi-Rite Creamery, and walk to Mission Dolores Park. Since the microclimate of this neighborhood is typically warmer and sunnier than other parts of the city, you can find many groups of people sitting on grassy knolls enjoying the outdoors while soaking in the panoramic views of San Francisco from this park. Afterward, head over to Mission St where you will find the charming movie theatre Alamo Drafthouse, where you can order well-crafted cocktails and mouthwatering food all while you watch your favorite film. There are so many treats in the Mission District that it’s always worth a visit.
